EQ for Social Studies

1. What are the population trends around the world and what factors are influencing those trends?

As you know we know the population is growing rapidly these days especially in Asia of China and India. The reason is that their trend is to have many children as possible as they could. If they have many people in family that means they have many people to work outside which also means more income will come to family. This is how they are thinking and the reason why the population is growing so rapidly.

2. What is being done to stabilize global population growth?

As people started to educated well, people realized that it is not good to have many children. They started to realize that it is better to have less children but more well educated and more income will come to family.

3. How are resources distributed and utilized?

The resources are distributed by money. However since the money is not distributed evenly the resources are not divide evenly. That is why some people are rich but some people are so poor. After they bought the resources they will use it. The house where have enough resources they will waste it and won't use it properly. The house where have not enough resources they will use it wisely to save their money.

4. What are the effects of humanity’s consumption of the world’s resources?

The effect will be that we are soon going to be run out of important resources like water. Also there is global warming because we people used too much coals and developed with harming environment.

5. What are possible solutions to problems associated with population trends and use of resources?

There are many different ways to solve. One way is to conserve or give up resources. Another way could be invent new technology to prevent the resources that are running out. Like for example we are running out of coals and oils. So instead we can use sun light which never ends.

The revealers 2

The Revealers

In the novel, The Revealers, the students of Parkland Middle felt connected through SchoolStream or as the students called it KidNet where they were able to chat or instant message. Most of you do this nightly through MSN Messenger. With KidNet and MSN nobody could break into or eavesdrop on your conversation without it being known. Not anymore. Today’s technology allows you to assume the identity of another person. Do you really know whom you are talking to in the cyber world?
+BONUS

Almost 30% of people in MSN are people who I get to know through MSN but don't know their face. Sometimes I got to know their face through the Display picture but I never met in person. About 40% of people is who I know their face, but I didn't speak with them very much. Also I don't have almost no information about them. 10% of people are who I know very well and almost talk everyday. I think that MSN or other community is good system because you can get closer with other friends at second hand. However I don't think it is good as meeting in peron.

It is 10:00 pm on a Wednesday night; you have finished your homework and you are chatting on MSN with three other friends. After 10 minutes two more friends ask to join the chat. By 10:30 pm five more people have joined and it is fun; however, there is a joke said about one of the people, rapidly followed by an insult. At first, no one knows how to respond, then seconds later a message pops up stating, “I didn’t say that! It isn’t me saying these things. Someone is using my name. What is going on here?”

What is the issue involved in this scenario? Why is this serious?

The issue in this scenario is that a hacker is using other person's username.
The problem is that if the hacker uses other people's and write bad thing about
them, the credit of the real person's will drop, and no one likes.

What would be a responsible way to handle this situation?
Don't tell the password, and in the note say stop that. For example in MSN, you can

write in the So no one could be talk in your username.

How could a situation like this be resolved?
We can resolve this by changing password in account,

another way is to leave notes to them, through the name you use for chat.
Like "Stop it dude~ hacker!!!" But changing your password is the best way
to solve this situation.

How would one of the three main characters from The Revealers deal with this situation?
Maybe Catalina could send a mail through the KidNet and explain not to do,

and try to convince to them by giving them examples of experiment.

Schools take bullying seriously
Prevention is the key at middle-school level

Everyone likes a laugh -- no one more, perhaps, than children.
Too often, though, the joke comes at someone else's expense.
"Most of the time when it happens, people just laugh," said Pricilla Lara, an eighth-grader at West Middle School in Holland. "It's really funny until it happens to you, then it hurts," said Laura Zavala, also an eighth-grader at West.

Bullying is a problem for middle school-aged children as well as the upper grades -- and some area schools believe prevention is the solution.
Holland Public Schools started a committee this spring to brainstorm ways to prevent bullying after 8-year-old student Nate Harder was beaten up on a school bus and walked home with a bloody nose.

David Laman, a Holland school board member, leads the committee. Laman, a professional child psychologist who works at the firm Developmental Enhancement in Jenison, says that the topic isn't discussed often enough.

"We need to send a clear message: This is what you do when someone is bullying you," he said. "Historically, we haven't said as much about it as we could. We need to get out there and talk about it."

Holland's West Middle School will kick off Bully Awareness Week Monday, listening to officials speak about the need for respecting each other. The event was organized by West counselor Robert Medellin, who says "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
"This is my ounce of prevention," Medellin said. Students will hear motivational speakers Rob Holladay and Rachel Simmons speak about how to avoid bullying.

Earlier in the month, students listened to 16-year-old rapper Jonathan "Baby Jay" Gutierrez with the anti-bullying group Operation Respect sing and talk about respecting others.
Tylor Wierzbowski, a sixth-grader at Harbor Lights Middle School, could use a few friends. Wierzbowski has started faking sick, hoping to skip school.

"I like school," he said. "I just don't like the bullies. They just pick on me and hurt my feelings."
Wierzbowski's complaints are familiar to his mother, Rinda Glass, who was mocked in school because of the shape of her face. "I was teased in school, because I had a birth defect," she said. "It's a tear-down -- and it affects people later in life."

West Ottawa Public Schools started a school-wide positive behavior support system this year.
"We've defined lessons for all of our schools and are teaching those lessons," said Cindy Dymowski, assistant superintendent for student services.

But when bullying occurs, teachers may not immediately know how to react. For that reason, some teachers at Zeeland Public Schools have a short 15-second speech printed on the reverse side of their school name tags.

I think this is a good information about the bully.

The revealers -question

Blog Question: Is bullying a rite of passage of childhood and adolescence? Is it apart of the maturation process one needs to go through to reach adulthood? Explain. Mrs. Hogeboom brings up this topic on page 108.

It is a maturation process in life, and a mountain that they have to pass through. However I don't think that it is a rite* of passage of childhood and adolescence. Bullying became a big problem from all the country. Some kid's personality changed like they were brave but changed to shy or they are bullying other childrens to revenge. The world have to think about this problem and try to solve.
